    1. Raw Material Extraction: The Hidden Cost of Resources

    The environmental impact of electronics begins long before a device reaches consumers. The manufacturing process relies heavily on raw materials, including metals like lithium, cobalt, and gold, which are often sourced through mining.

    • Deforestation & Habitat Destruction – Mining operations require large-scale excavation, leading to the destruction of forests and ecosystems.
    • Soil & Water Contamination – Toxic chemicals used in mining, such as cyanide and mercury, seep into nearby water sources, harming wildlife and local communities.
    • Carbon Emissions – Extracting and transporting raw materials require significant energy, often derived from fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

    Many manufacturers are exploring sustainable material sourcing to reduce reliance on newly mined resources, favoring recycled metals and ethical supply chains. However, much of the industry still depends on traditional mining practices, exacerbating environmental degradation.

    2. Manufacturing: High Energy & Chemical Waste

    Once raw materials are processed, they are used to manufacture electronic components like circuit boards, batteries, and displays. This stage is resource-intensive, with factories consuming vast amounts of water and electricity.
