    The best participations of Nepalese athletes in the Summer Olympics

    Nepal’s journey in the Summer Olympics has been one of persistence, representation, and breaking national records. Getting the 1xBet app is extremely easy, and with it, you will be able to use your mobile device to bet on the Olympics too.

    The South Asian nation first stepped onto the global Olympic stage in 1964 at the Tokyo Games, fielding 6 competitors in athletics and boxing. This marked the beginning of a near-unbroken attendance at the Summer Games (missing only the 1968 Mexico City Olympics) since then. Make sure to have the app from 1xBet in your phone when the Olympics take place, so you can bet on the best participants of this major event.

    One of the earliest memorable participations was that of Bidhan Lama in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Lama competed in taekwondo, which at the time was included as an exhibition sport. He advanced to the semi-finals in the finweight division and finished in third place, earning bronze in the demonstration event. This remains one of Nepal’s most remarkable performances on the Olympic stage.

    Another significant milestone came in 2004 when Sangina Baidya became the first Nepali athlete to qualify for the Olympics on merit in taekwondo, rather than through invitation or quota places. This represented a meaningful development in Nepalese sport, proving that athletes from the country could meet the qualification standards set by international federations.

    Other remarkable feats achieved by these sportspeople

    At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Gaurika Singh captured global attention as the youngest Olympian from Nepal at just 13 years old. Singh competed in the Women’s 100 m backstroke and won her heat, though she did not advance to the semifinals. Her participation was celebrated both at home and internationally as a symbol of youthful promise and determination.

    Singh continued her Olympic journey at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she set a new national record in the women’s 100 m freestyle. Meanwhile, other Nepali competitors, like shooter Kalpana Pariyar, also set personal and national bests. This showcased the trend of athletes improving Nepalese standards even without advancing to later rounds.

    Most recently at the 2024 Paris Olympics, athletes such as table tennis player Santoo Shrestha and swimmer Alexander Shah continued the tradition of participation. Other sports that also saw Nepalese participation were:

    • Badminton;
    • Judo;
    • Shooting;
    • and Athletics.

    In fact, Alexander Shah broke his own national record in the men’s 100 m freestyle. These performances highlight how Nepali athletes continue to push boundaries and set benchmarks for future generations.
